Poetry On The Porch with Victoria Meyers

Hot Springs, Arkansas - Victoria Meyers will be featured “on the porch” at the Ozark Bathhouse Cultural Center (formerly the MOCA)located at 425 Central Ave on Bathhouse Row at 2 p.m. on Friday May 8, 2015. Come out for a special recitation of her original works and maybe a special guest or two as part of Poetry on the Porch in the Hot Springs National Park during Arts & The Park.

Victoria's poetry is often delivered in free-verse and can be described as dark yet hopeful; a reflection of her life experiences as survivor of abuse and as a special needs parent.

Victoria began writing as a child. As a student at Peeples Junior High in Jackson, Mississippi she published her first poem entitled The Baby Blue Princess Phone. In college at Pulaski Technical College she was twice published in the college's annual literary work known as The View From Here: in the 2000 issue, The Flying Fool (an essay) and in 2001 Summer's End (a poem).

As a disabled single mother of 5, Victoria stopped writing soon after until moving to Hot Springs in 2013 when she co-wrote many songs with her singer-songwriter daughter, Maxine Meyers. After receiving encouragement from friends she has taken up her writing anew since February and has been writing out years of strife. She says, “I have been pouring out 13 years of craziness into my writing since February and I don't see it slowing down anytime soon.”

Victoria is an avid volunteer for Summerfest Uptown on Park, Adair Faire with the Fine Arts Center of Hot Springs, STAR Gallery, Valley of the Vapors Underground Rock Festival, Hot Water Hills Music Festival as well as the former Vice President of the Arkansas Chapter of the National Autism Association (2013) with at least one child on the autism spectrum, a home-school advocate and Bible teacher. Her interests include the promotion of local live music in Arkansas, poetry, vaccine injury advocacy, GMO eradication, organic food and a healthy lifestyle, including the GFCF and Paleo diets. She lives with her two youngest children in Hot Springs National Park, Arkansas.

On any given day, you will find her updating her status on Facebook, or Blogging at Bear-FootinthePark.blogspot.com where she archives her original poetry or BearShirt.org or promoting a musical or community event. You can follow her on twitter @Mey_Victory
